AMLA (Phyllanthus Amblica) आँवला

Amla (आँवला)
English Name:Amla;  Botanical Name:Phyllanthus amblica; Common Indian Name:Amla or Indian Gooseberry

 In traditional Indian medicine, dried and fresh fruits of the plant are used. In fact all parts of plant are used- fruit, seed, leaves, root, bark and flowers.
Qualities (गुण):  Light (लघु) and dry (रुक्ष), the post digestive effect is sweet (मधुर), and its energy is cooling (शीतल).

Amla balances all three doshas. Amla is unusual in that it contains five out of the six tastes recognized by Ayurved. Amla is helpful in reducing pitta(पित्त) due to its cooling energy. It also balances vata(वात) because of its sweet taste. The kapha(कफ) is balanced due to its drying action. It is used as a rejuvenative to promote longevity, and traditionally to enhance digestion, treat constipation, reduce fever, purify the blood, reduce cough, alleviate asthma, strengthen the heart, benefit the eyes, stimulate hair growth, stops hair fall,  enliven the body, and enhance intellect. Amla is the primary ingredient in Chyawanprash. In China this fruit is used to cure throat inflammation. It has significant potential to reduce glucose level in blood. It can be used in weight loss formula with other hurbs as it improves body metabolism.

Amalki Rasayan: Amalki Rasayan(आमलकी रसायन)  for hyperacidity, pepliculcer and vigour, digestive formula for vata(वात). Amlaki Rasayan nourishes the tissues & gently removes toxins from the body.
